TRIBE is a Horizon 2020 European Union project which aspires to promote energy efficient behavior in public environments. Public spaces lack the traditional efficiency incentives, such as saving money and personal responsibility, compared to private ones. The TRIBE 2020 game was created to explore and exploit aspects of public spaces, such as norms and collective attitudes through ideas stemming from gamification and game design.
Throughout the project 5 pilot buildings (four in Spain, one in Turkey) were involved and energy simulation, building monitoring and social, design and impact assessment studies were carried out. The resulting game is meant to function as a tool for educators and promotors of energy efficient behaviors.
Game-wise it falls somewhere in between resource management and simulation and minigame based exploration and story-driven adventure. The player takes the role of a descendants of the fire shamans and aspires to repent for the irresponsible energy consumption that started with humanities discovery of fire.
